Artist Statement
I create photorealistic drawings, abstract and conceptual paintings in mixed media, oil, watercolour acrylic.
Inspired by the mystiques of inner intuition and nature. I create art that captures the very moments that I feel internally as I tune into my inner self. My conceptual pieces dance and bounce the line between what I see between in my imagination and thought, in my personal life experiences and between the many visions from a feeling deep inside me. I am captivated by the ocean, and the power of nature as a whole, its complexity, power and existence. I paint my abstracts in freestyle, with a method of using a 'rawness' like technique with my brushes swaying them back and forth overlapping each stroke of paint in several layers.
Photorealism & Abstract
Photorealism is:- a genre of art that encompasses painting drawing and other graphic media, in which an artist studies a photograph and then attempts to create the image as realistically as possible in another medium (extract).
My passion is to recreate art from collecting personal resourceful imagery, using my own collection of memories and photos after I've spent time in that location. My work shifts between different artistic styles, depending on the source imagery or how I desire to create the tone. I develop drawings with lots of detailing, however I enjoy the freestyle method when it comes to my abstract painting as I am free to express feeling and it's intensity. I tend to use materials such as loose graphite, pencils, smudging (with fingers and cotton) for my drawings, with few tools as possible and I also deliver the same technique with my paintings as I find something quite beautiful, intriguing when keeping things raw.
Background
Sara Elisa Lowe (British b.1977) of Italian descent. An artist with inherent abilities in art and music. Sara started taking commissions at the age of five years old.
Sara is an independent commission artist and works from her home studio. Influenced by Illustration, graphic art and traditional art.
By the time she turned eight, Sara had won several competitions which were published in the local newspaper 1986. Sara's Grandfather gifted her a watercolour palette which she won at sunday school one summer. Without explanation her fascination with The Old Masters commenced by the time she was nine years old, Sara started to recreate classical drawings such as 'Leonardo's ugly faces'. In 1992 an art scholarship was a possibility but due to family circumstances the opportunity never materialised. Whilst redirecting her work into healthcare, medicine and engineering, her enthusiasm to learn and study art on a private basis continued. Also having been brought up in quite a secluded environment, Sara spent much of her childhood shut away painting in her own bedroom. Sara produced hundreds of private drawings and commissioned work for free, including a spectacular 10ft portrait painting created in the small bedroom of her parents home.
Her painting 'The Teenager' based on a image by a US photographer who cannot be named, was purchased within days of listing to a private collector in 2002; along with a mystique abstract called 'Oceans.' In the last several decades Sara has travelled extensively around Europe, Australia, Japan and US. Her work has attracted the attention of television celebrities and actors who own several of her portraits.
In 2006 Sara won a national award for Best Concept Design for a National Heath Service Campaign, her design could be viewed in hospitals across the UK. In 2010 her first abstract oil painting 'Escape, Three Voices' was showcased on a No1 contemporary art website, winning a place in the Top 3. Her portrait in graphite 'Mik3 Oldfi3ld' won Best Art category on an official fan web-forum in January 2011. Today, her work is attracting internationally and the interest is growing by the day. Her portraits and abstracts are presented in in traditional method but also uses digital art using photographs and still life.
